TURKS ON STONES FROM SIBERIA TO ANATOLIA

Conducting research on the roots of Turkish history covering the pre-historic periods, Sermet Somuncuoğlu’s book entitled Turks on Stones from Siberiato Anatolia represents a "first" in its field as a work exemplifying the first sources of Turkish history "caved on stone". Cave pictures collected from 65 different geographies of Turkish history is striking as it provides examples to support the argument that Turks have a rich history covering thousands of years from Asia to Anatolia. The giant work which constitutes a resource for all researchers and universities conducting art history, art, language-culture research at the national and international level has also been granted with Sedat Simavi Social Sciences Research Award in 2008.

The work sheds light on an important detail for eliminating an omission of comparative studies within the scope of Turkish culture and history. It presents significant documents with regard to Turkish history providing examples of the cultures of people who had been living on mountain tops thousands of years ago. Invoking a feeling of a photo album, Turks on Stones from Siberia to Anatolia shall be a rich source of data for scientists. It is possible to describe the relationship between cave paintings collected from 64 different locations visually within the album.

The work which deepens all of the mysterious sides of Turkish history while imposing new meanings provides examples of cave paintings from Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgzstan, Altai Autonomous Area, Khakasia Autonomous Region, Tuva Autonomous Region, Azerbaijan and Turkey. The study which answers the question of where and how Turkish history begins also provides examples of depictions of the sensitivity towards awareness on Turkishness and new excitements and diligence for scientific approach.
